About us
House of Mercy is a registered NPO project that strives to make a big difference in children and young people who live in disadvantaged families, as well as children who became victims of sexual, alcohol and drug abuse. We, as House of Mercy are here to make sure that with our help, these children will have access to the very most important things they need in life to become successful in the future. We give care and shelter homeless children and young people; we help gangsters, prostitutes and drug addicted people who want to change, we counsel and accommodate them until they get on their feet. We hold camps in different places for healing sessions and to offer our help to disadvantaged communities. We equip members of the community and people who work as volunteers with different skills like baking, sewing and arts and crafts. We help children to improve their educational level by equipimg them in our daily reading classes, and we give serious tension on their school work like projects and assigments and we try and find bursaries for them. We distribute food parcels to disadvantaged families in the community. We strive to change people’s lives in Worcester and South Africa it’s self. Our aim is to build shelters in all of our provences so that we can carry out what we are doing in full and great capacity.

Changing young people's lives
We have different activities where by every child receives a chance to express their different talents. And from there, House of Mercy helps them to take their talents out to the community where by they get to minister to people through what they can do. Through the teachings they get here in House of Mercy, their talents turns to be a great blessing to the community. From singing and dancing to drama, these young stars became the ministers of God just by doing what they love most with out being exposed to violence, drugs, alcohol and sexual activities that would lead them to nothing in the future. For us it’s a great blessing to be able to minister to the community through what we love most! It gives us a chance to operate at our full capacity for God, that’s awesome! (one of young people in H.O.M. Benson).
Every year we have a number of camps that we hold with them in different places like McGregor and others. These camps helps these young people very well because they get a chance to encourage one another, even the healing sessions that are held there are a great blessing to them. All the discouragements of life in their hearts are being broke during these sessions, and that is not even a piece of what is happening during these sessions, for its only a drop in the ocean!
Empowering the community.
By providing skills for them, we as House of Mercy believe that we reduce a high rate of unskilled South African citizens who end up unemployed because of being unskilled. We believe that its best for us to show a man how to catch a fish than to give him one at once, for he will eat today and tomorrow he will get hungry again and he will need another fish. But by giving him the skills to catch one, he will be able to catch one for himself when hungry again..
We run the skills development program to help the community and peolpe who work as
volunteers in the project. Some of the community members have been granted a chance to take part in these development programs. These skills development programes inclued the skills training in baking, sewing and arts and crafts. Through the skills they get from us, they can be able to start their own businesses where by they can provide for their families as some of them did and are already providing for their families.

Caring for the needy.
Educating our children.

We, as House of Mercy believe that education is very important to our children, that’s why we do our best to see to it that these children receive serious attention when it comes to their school work and performance. House of Mercy has a daily program that includes bible study and reading classes to our children in week days where by they get a chance to be monitored while doing their home-work, school projects and assignments. and most of them have received awards last year for passing at the highest rate in their grades, good manners, dedication and for mastering some of their subjects in class. It makes us very proud to see our children perfoming well in their education, that’s why we go out there to find bursaries for them so they can further their studies, and through the help of God we managed to find bursaries for some of them, and some of them managed to complete their NCV programs. For that we thank the Lord for giving them the strength to make it, and we thank him for making sure that their dreams will come true.THANK YOU JESUS!

Because of a high rate of unemployment in South Africa, it’s very hard for some families to have food on their tables.Because of that, people and children turn into criminals and prostitutes in order for them to get food on their tables, and that leads to violence, drug addiction, sexual abuse and early pregnancy.
So to make a
difference,
House of Mercy has a
feeding scheme
program that includes
soap kitchen and food
parcel distribution to
disadvantaged families in
the community.

Caring for the sick.
House of Mercy believes that, by standing together we can make a big difference in each other’s lives with out losing hope on one another, but by making one another fill special, bringing hope in one another’s lives and by taking care of one another when we mostly need each other. we give care to people living with HIV and AIDS. We provide them with necessary care and make sure they stay healthy.
Daphne Oliphant goes out to patientswho lost hope on them selves because of H.I.V and AIDS virus, for they think that because of this
virus in their bodies they are
not special anymore. They think that they are not
important any more. She
goes to proclaimed
the love that our Lord Jesus
Christ has for them, making
sure that they understand
that, no sickness or virus
will separate them
from the unfailing love of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
She encourages them with words of hope, and she showed them that they are very special and beautiful by washing their hair, giving them a make up and making sure that they know and see how beautiful and special they are and that nothing will change that, no matter what people might think about them.

The founder : Mrs Daphne Oliphant

House of Mercy is a Project that was formed on the foundation of Christ. It was formed in 1999 by Daphne Oliphant.
With a great support fromour Lord Jesus Christ and her loving husband Thomas Oliphant,Daphne’s vision of taking
care of children and young people from disadvantaged families and those who fell into drugs came into reality!
The reason why I started this project was because of my brother, who got life sentence for molesting his
3 daughters ( Daphne Oliphant explains how the vision started ).
After what had happened, my brother’s wife abandoned these children.
Shetook another man and left with him! I became very worried about
thesechildren, then I decided to go and live with them. Then one day,
questions came into my mind that, out there, there's children who are
in the samesituation as these one’s and to some of them its worse,
who is helping them? Who is making sure that these children receives
all the support they need to get through these situations? Then from
that day I decided to dosome thing about it, by using my ownhouse for
this vision.
At first it was very hard because I did not have enough space
(and I still don’t have enough space because I’m still using my house)
to accommodate all the children that I was helping for the number was
increasing every day. I did not have even enough space to carry on with
teachings, devotions and different development programs and activities
that we carried out. But because God called me special for this project,
my husband and I stood together to make this possible until God sends
people to donate on this project, Clover Mama Africa they gave us different
skills training, office equipment and other working equipment like bakery equipment.
"We aim big"
Our aim is to build shelters in each province in our country, where by people will bernefit form our help. We want to bring in our best efford to change South Africa by reducing a high rate of crime unemployment, early teenage pregnancy, alcohol abuse, sexual abuse, high rate of uneducated citizens, high rate of unemployment and again empowering man and woman.
To accomplish this we will do our best to educate our children in different levels, help them to make success of their lives. We will aim the exect things that causes above mantioned things like poverty that is causes by unskilledness, low level of educated citizens and high rate fo unemployment. With different programs that we carry out, a difference will be made in our communities.

How did it start?

Our special request to you.

It is a great honour for House of Mercy to know that our existence brings a great difference in South Africa and Worcester’s community and we would like you to know that, through your support we can do better. Please take part on bringing joy in somebody’s life by donating with anything you have ( food parcels, clothes, blankets, any amount of money or anything that will change these children’s lives). These are our main needs: space - our space is too small for us to carry out our daily programs like sewing classes, dancing classes, reading classes, bible study and other on going activities, more sleeping rooms for we want to accommodate more home less children, we even need help for monthly groceries and monthly toiletries for we have children that are accommodated permanently here, food parcels to distribute to the community (families that are in need of food), and clothes for the children, transport ( Bus or a minibus and a bakky) for we travel different places to offer our help and to hold camps and different activities with our children. Your support will play a big role in the community and these children’s lives. Please know that somebody out there is waiting for your help and it might be the only thing they are left with, YOUR HELP. Thank you!
